Jibe “uprising”

Jibe was one of the premier Dallas rock bands in the early 2000′s. Their live show was full of incredible energy and they would pack Curtain Club and Trees wall to wall with screaming fans. Everyone that saw or knew the band had a “Joe story” about the singer’s antics . He was off the chains and lived on the edge!

After seeing them live I knew we would work well together so I started planting a seed. After doing a three song demo, we decided to cut an epic all out rock full length. During the pre-production I felt they didn’t have enough strong material so home they went to write more songs. When they came back Toby(guitar) had a great riff idea and they proceeded to write “Yesterday’s Gone” in the studio. The song became a local hit, with 97.1 The Eagle adding it to regular rotation.

The album was recorded on my trusty Sony JH-24 2″ analog machine with everything extremely “hot” to tape. The guitars were quadruple tracked for thickness and vocals were cut on a Coles 4038, a huge sounding ribbon mic that usually doesn’t get used for singing. Still proud of this album, I think it captures a bit of this incredible band’s live energy.

This post is my first entrance into the blogosphere.
My goal will be to chronicle my life as a producer/engineer and provide an entertaining and sometimes informational view of studio life. I am lucky to have spent 20 years doing what i love to do and have the best job in the world. Life “in the cave” is increasingly challenging.
